Q: I can’t remember where I read or heard this, but I was under the impression that some fat burners (Hydroxycut was specifically mentioned) are made differently here in Canada. I’ve heard that the Canadian version of Hydroxycut doesn’t really work, or at least doesn’t work as well as the US version of it. Is this true?

A: It is true that the Canadian version of Hydroxycut and other popular brands of fat burners have different formulas than their U.S. counterparts. The reason why is because ephedrine, the main ingredient in most of the popular fat burners in the U.S., is strictly regulated in Canada. Right now, ephedrine is getting a bad rap here in the States too, forcing companies to turn away from using it in their products. Most of the top companies, including the makers of Hydroxycut, have already stopped - so their Canadian and U.S. products should be the same now. If you ask me, the products that contain ephedrine, even though they present higher health risks, are much more effective than the ones without. But as far as the actual scientific research goes, some of these ephedrine free formulas are looking pretty good. Probably the biggest turn on about the ephedrine based products is that they are very effective energy boosters as well as fat loss aids. But for some, the jittery feeling you get from ephedrine is just too much to handle.
