Before you decide to make the big plunge into the use of steroids for bodybuilding purposes it should be crystal clear to you about how these substances work. As a precautionary rule you should always ensure that you get into their use as a last result, mostly when all other avenues of trying to grow the body naturally have been exhausted. Even so, it is prudent and wise that you get expert consulting from a seasoned physician or health specialist who will offer valuable insights that will guide you on how to use them if you must.

That having been said it is critical that we understand what these steroids are in the first place. Steroids are usually categorized into two big groups i.e. the corticosteroids and the anabolic steroids. We will briefly examine what each of these terminologies means. Corticosteroids are those steroids that are prescribed in order to manage various inflammatory conditions in the body. These types of steroids are legally recognized in most countries unlike the anabolic steroids which remain banned in many countries.

Anabolic steroids on the other hand are those substances that are used by some athletes to hasten the process of muscle growth and tissue repair. They are synthetic derivations of the natural hormone testosterone which is primarily produced in the male testicular area. As has been highlighted above, their use is prohibited by law in many countries and if one is caught in their possession he or she could face long jail terms and heavy fines to boot. To this effect anabolic steroids are unavailable over the counter and no physician would dare prescribe them for fear of prosecution.

The chief avenues through which these substances are obtained are the Internet and the black market. Since the genuineness of the quality of product cannot be possibly confirmed then it is very possible that some athletes consume dangerous substances under the guise of the original product. Many athletes have been known to consume animal steroids without their knowledge; it is a very risky affair indeed.

Before falling hook, line and sinker for the perceived positive effects of steroids, the individual should have made all efforts possible to exhaust other existent options. Logically it is wise to start training the body naturally i.e. in conjunction with a well designed and planned meal regimen. If this does not work (I am sure that some degree of success will be attained) then it is wise to move on to supplements. This is the wise choice since supplements are known to present lesser side effects in comparison to the steroids.

The use of supplements requires lots of patience before any significant decision can be made. Try them out for about two months and if you are sure that enough progress cannot be made then it is when you should go for the steroids (this I say very hesitantly). When you finally make the big plunge be sure that there is a price to pay. You must be ready for this.
