When most average people are asked to think of bodybuilders, usually the two responses they will have are Arnold, and ‘roid rage. Arnold Schwarzenegger is the most famous bodybuilder ever, also he is a huge actor, and is now a politician; so his named grouped in with bodybuilding is not a bad thing. But ‘roid rage is the term for the increased anger and aggression that comes with steroid use, so this being thought of when bodybuilding is mentioned is not a positive thing.

Most people don’t know if ‘roid rage actually exists, or whether it’s yet another sample of negative attention from the media designed to deter people from steroids. This stereotype can be damaging, but the media is not the only thing to blame. Some of the bodybuilders who have been charged with committing crimes have attempted to blame this criminal behavior on the steroids they were taking, not on the choices they made. They have lawyers try to tirelessly argue that artificial hormones are to blame for their criminal behavior, so despite their efforts to hold back they were being controlled by the drug, and can’t be held accountable for their actions. The media likes these stories because they result in both good and bad responses from the people who watch.

Studies have shown that there is likely probability for violent behavior in about three percent of people who use steroids. Sometimes this can mean small bursts of anger, but it can also lead to spontaneous violent behavior. This seems like reliable information, but first you need to analyze the average people who use steroids. They usually are already aggressive by nature, they are also very determined people that have proved that their need for muscle mass surpasses their need to obey the law. These are also the kind of people with the drive and energy that are in the gym for several hours a day. So this means that about three percent of these determined and aggressive people will have the potential to be violent. When you see the situation from this aspect you realize that if three people out of a hundred have the potential for erratic violent behavior, then the vast majority will never show any symptoms of ‘roid rage at all.

When a person has an aggressive nature to begin with, adding to their testosterone level with artificial hormones will no doubt increase their aggressiveness. So if a person is seen as an ass regularly, than he’ll most likely be a much bigger ass when on steroids. Steroids increase many things in the body, so if aggression is one of these things then it needs to be directed towards growing muscle and gaining strength.
