The media and the anti-steroid lobby have done a lot of damage to the reputation of anabolic steroids in the past 30 years. It began in the late 1980s, when a group of media-driven “experts” who had never used steroids in their life decided to start blaming any and all medical conditions on their use. One famous athlete’s death was blamed on steroid use, and suddenly America was going crazy with Dianabol panic! It didn’t take Congress long to act in their own self-interest of achieving re-election, and passing legislation in 1989 to ban the use, sale, and possession of anabolic steroids.
Part of their success came from the facts that steroids were such an unknown entity to many people at that time. Very clever anti-drug campaign showing a fried egg declaring “This is your brain on drugs” led many users to completely walk away from the compounds, or never try them in the first place. The real examples of intelligent steroid use were on display for all to see, in the form of healthy adults walking among us, and ballplayers on television breaking records that had stood for decades. While there are always going to be cases of people who have abused their bodies using anything – from automobiles to alcohol to any number of drugs – the benefits that can be derived from the use of these compounds used intelligently far outweigh the negatives experienced by a hapless few.
If you’re worried about anabolic steroid side effects, you should consider where you are coming from, in terms of research conducted and goals you have in mind for yourself. If you’re an 18-year old athlete, you aren’t going to benefit all that much from the use of artificial testosterone. Your levels are already through the roof. On the other hand, if you are 48 years old and you are noticing your quality of life and performance in the gym has been lagging, then you may want to consider usage. Anabolic steroid side effects are highly manageable when cycles are short, dosages are moderate, and the user backs off use at the sign of minor side effects- before they become major.
In the end, we all end up on the wrong side of the grass. The manner in which you choose to abuse, or improve, the body which you were given is your own choice. Sure, there is legislation in existence to keep foolish people from making foolish errors which will then lead to them being a burden upon society, but for the most part anabolic steroids are available for bodybuilders who are able to prove both their willingness to treat these powerful compounds with the respect they deserve, and a legitimate need for artificial testosterone supplementation. If you have these things, then anabolic steroid side effects will not be of concern to you. On the other hand, if you don’t feel you are mentally or physically ready, you should place them on the backburner for 2 or 3 years then re-visit the issue. They’ll still be there, and your depth and breadth of knowledge on this issue will have improved in the meanwhile!
