Anabolic steroids are also known as anabolic-androgenic steroids (AAS) and, at the simplest level, are substances that promote and facilitate muscle growth.
How anabolic steroids work is that, on a chemical level, they imitate the function of the male hormones testosterone and dihydrotestosterone by increasing protein building – protein synthesis – within each cell. This increased level of protein synthesis results in each cell carrying an increased amount of cellular tissue, which is known as anabolism. Of all the types of cells in the body, the muscle cells are affected most by the ingestion of anabolic steroids. Anabolic steroids are used for the development of the muscles needed to play various sports at competition levels and also to mitigate the effects of Andropause, the male menopause.
There are several different types of anabolic steroids that are made from different hormone combinations and any particular type of anabolic steroid will be marketed under a specific brand name. The steroid marketed as Sustanon has been created by combining four different esterfied testosterone compounds. Esterization of the testosterone occurs when the hormone is forced to undergo a specific chemical reaction that transforms it into an ester. The purpose behind the esterization of the testosterone is to allow it to enter the blood plasma at a sustained rate rather than all at once. This sustained rate is not gradual, however, and, as there are four different kinds of esterfied testosterone being used to make up the steroid, it is released into the blood plasma at four different rates. Sustanon is also oil-based and is administered through injection.
Sustanon is manufactured for both adults and children and the Sustanon 250 packs contain the adult dosages while the Sustanon 100 packs contain the children’s dosages. Sustanon 250 contains a different amount of each cauterized testosterone compound than Sustanon 100 and here’s how the two compare:
(1) Sustanon 250 has 30mg of Testosterone Proprionate while Sustanon 100 has 20mg;
(2) Sustanon 250 has 60mg of Testosterone Isocaproate while Sustanon 100 has 40mg;
(3) Sustanon 250 has 60mg of Testosterone Phenylproprionate while Sustanon 100 has 40mg; and
(4) Sustanon 250 has 100mg of Testosterone Decanoate while Sustanon 100 has none.
Due to its unique structure, Sustanon is extremely good at increasing both muscle strength and muscle mass. It is therefore extremely popular among sportsmen or anyone who needs to build up muscle mass quickly. Sustanon injections are usually scheduled for once every week or every 10 days and the size of the doses can differ between users.
Side effects of Sustanon are not as severe as those found to some other steroids and include mild androgenic effects like oily skin, an increase in acne and accelerated hair loss.
