In bodybuilding circles, some guys will “use” whatever they can get their hands upon. If buddies in the gym locker room are passing around a needle, they’ll get stuck too. If an acquaintance has a few dozen Anadrol to unload, they’ll buy whatever is available. Sometimes their cycles will last 2 weeks, and sometimes they’ll stay “on” for 4 months or longer. They’re not all that scientific about their use. They simply use whatever they can get their hands upon. Over time, they learn about steroid use from their trial and error, and may end up being fairly wise on the subjects of steroids, eventually. However, the trials and tribulations they face in the meantime can be very painful, and can cost them years of progress in the weight room.
One common mistake made by new steroid users is to get their hands upon Dianabol, and use it by itself. If it is the only drug one can locate, they will argue, isn’t some boost better than none? The answer in this case, unfortunately, is no. Scientifically speaking, Dianabol is what is known as a 17-alpha steroid. In other words, there is very little androgen activity. The user will experience evaluated testosterone levels and will gain a lot of weight very quickly – but most of it will be water weight. Using high doses of Dianabol alone leads to a great deal of water retention. Visually, you’ll be uncomfortable with the dreaded “moon face” and the sheath of bloat that will follow you. In terms of health effects, the instant spike in blood pressure is also something you wish to avoid at all costs.
Dianabol cannot be used for very long – either by itself or in conjunction with another drug. Even in the 1970s, when awareness of side effects was extremely low compared to what we know today, individuals would still halt all use of this powerful oral after eight weeks. Unfortunately, some uneducated users today lack this ability. They will use continuously, reaping minimal then negative positive effects as their blood pressure spikes and they look worse each week. Dianabol is a very toxic steroid.
Even those users who do understand the need to limit Dianabol (or any harsh oral) use after two months aren’t going to see that many effects any way. Standard injectable testosterone cycles usually run 10 to 15 weeks, with the most noticeable gains (and side effects) being seen later in the cycle. The first eight weeks are merely a warm-up, of sorts.
Why would any bodybuilder ever choose Dianabol over an injectable like testosterone, which has greater effectiveness, less side effects, and can be used for much longer? Most of the time, it is because the bodybuilder wishes to avoid needles. The naïve trainer will just assume any boost to his testosterone levels of the body is going to be useful for gaining muscle. Don’t fall into this trap. Dianabol is only to be used as a compound to start cycles, delivering fast gains in size and strength for a few weeks while you wait for the injected testosterone to take effect.
