As bodybuilders approach a show, their choice of anabolic steroid becomes more and more important. In the off-season, they can take just about anything under the sun, and find success. Some steroids will cause bloating, water retention, etc, and it’s quite acceptable. After all, the goal of the off-season is to add muscular weight to the body. Some level of water and body fat comes with that, and that is fine.

In those closing weeks before a physique contest, issues like water/fat retention become more and more important. Taking your regular stack could leave you bloated or watery, requiring use of diuretics, which could lead to further complications and leave you cramped or stringy when you take the stage. A few steroids exist that don’t deliver these estrogen-laden side effects. Masteron is one of them.

Masteron is a fairly popular steroid among pre-contest bodybuilders for several reasons. First off, it does not have properties, which create spikes in estrogen, as many steroids do. As a result, the body doesn’t suffer from Gynecomastia and other side effects. Additionally, without the estrogen level fluctuation, there is no water retention. For a bodybuilder shedding water for a show, the tendency of some drugs to cause water retention can leave a great physique looking smooth and watery. Masteron is a good choice those last weeks before a show when water levels need to be watched, then manipulated and dropped.

Masteron has been known to cause muscles to harden and swell just a bit. Again, for the pre-contest athlete, this effect is entirely desirable. A hardening and swelling in the off-season would be barely noticeable. However, in the last two weeks before a show, it can add a great deal of quality to a physique with low body fat.

While Masteron doesn’t deliver an estrogen level rise, it does promise some of the other standard side effects from spiked testosterone levels. These include acne and accelerated male pattern baldness. If you were destined to lose your hair, it may disappear several years earlier as a result of Masteron use. Increased aggression and sex drive can also occur.

Masteron isn’t widely used anymore, but may still be available in some circles, or manufactured in a new delivery system, for specific pre-contest cutting stacks. Give it a try if your options are limited, but check its expiration date. Also, watch your liver enzyme levels, as Masteron has some fairly high toxicity.
