The great Robby Robinson recently made headlines as he came out against the use of anabolic steroids in the sport of bodybuilding. He claimed that in his competitive bodybuilding heyday, he only used a single shot of Primo, twice a month, to achieve his stellar combination of size and conditioning rarely matched even by today’s bodybuilders. If you do a google image search for his image, you may find his claim dubious, but on of the more interesting parts of his statement included a claim that upon taking his first Primo shot, he felt nauseous, dizzy, light headed, and nearly fainted. This took many bodybuilding fans, both steroid users and naturals, by surprise. Do injections really lead to feelings of dizziness or other side effects?

It should be noted that many of the people who suffer from these mental side effects – nausea, dizziness, and fainting – may just be victims of panic. Many emergency rooms each year are filled with men in their 20s or 30s who dabbled with too many recreational drugs and convinced themselves they were having a heart attack. Very often, the mental image of our own bodies being pierced by a foreign object (the needle), our own blood dripping, and some foreign oil entering our system, may be too much for squeamish bodybuilders to handle. That new and unique feeling of having oil soak into a muscle group inside out body is exhilarating to some, but induces panic in others. If you are going to panic when you use injectable AAS, it’s time to either toughen up, move to strictly orals, or reconsider the use of anabolic steroids entirely.

Of course, very often there are real side effects of steroid use. Dizziness and nausea are common effects of certain steroids, such as testosterone cypionate and trenbolone acetate. These steroids have a particular odor that is very powerful and often repugnant to the nasal senses of the person doing the injections. At a moment when you’re solely focused upon safely injecting, room ventilation isn’t always a concern. If you do use these compounds (or any other compound with a strong stench), you may want to consider moving from your cooped-up bathroom to a more well-ventilated area for injection. Avoid having a fan blasting on you, and work to ensure you still maintain hygienic standards.

Many users report severe coughing when injecting oils as well. This may be related to the proximity of injections to the lungs. Shots in the thighs or glutes immediately hit the bloodstream and are moved to the chest very quickly by major arteries of the leg. Coughing isn’t a major problem. Keep water nearby to drink, and just don’t stick yourself with a needle during your coughing spell.

Finally, for both the experienced and newbie bodybuilder, there is always the possibility of nicking a blood vessel and causing a fair amount of bleeding. The oil itself will have been injected deep into the muscle, so you shouldn’t worry about losing any of the effects. The blood that does drip (or spurt!) from the injection zone will be located nearer the surface and won’t affect the effectiveness of your injection. Good luck and be safe!
