A 2009 Drug bust by the DEA (U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency) delivered not only a stunning blow to those dealers involved in Operation raw Deal, but also a notice to those considering a future in purchasing or distributing steroids. The message was loud and clear. If you are involved with steroids, you will be shown the same level of aggression from the agency as an individual trafficking in substances such as cocaine, heroin, and marijuana. No exceptions!

Oddly, many smugglers have opted shipment of cocaine or marijuana in recent years over that of steroids. The risk-per-pound analysis that they conduct has led them to believe that the penalties involved with moving steroids just aren’t worth the risk. The media salivates over steroid drug bust stories, while every story about pallets of cocaine being seized just isn’t that big of a deal. Therefore politicians and police chiefs, anxious to retain their funding and position, tend to gravitate their resources towards suspected steroid targets. Imagine a DEA agent passing up a speedboat of cocaine to nail a gym rat with a backpack full of D-bol.

How many of you readers have ever had a “steroid junkie” rob you for your gold watch after an all-night Deca binge? This author’s guess is none. Yet the local county jail dockets are filled with men and women who used drugs like cocaine and heroin, then committed violent crimes against society as a result. Most bodybuilders’ only public offense is the flatulence often associated with consuming too much protein.

Every night, you can probably drive down the street in a seedy part of town, and a stranger will approach you and offer you the opportunity to buy some of his crack or smack. In all your years of training in all the different gyms you’ve entered, how many times has another member you’ve never met approached you and offered you a needle of Nandrolone? Never? It’s worlds easier to obtain a vial of crack cocaine than a vial of Testosterone Enanthate.

Men are going to prison for decades because they wanted to help other men in their 30s, 40s, 50s, and beyond to return to a physical level of testosterone production they enjoyed in their teens, and make a profit doing it. The typical steroid user is probably a male in his late 20s to late 30s. He holds at least one job, and probably has a young family. He pays his taxes, goes to church, and actually holds the door for little old ladies. He contributes to the betterment of society in everything he does. He uses steroids as a way of being a stronger, faster, more muscular human being. His biggest flaw is probably that of narcissism, as he likely sneaks a pose in any mirror he passes. This steroid user is good for society. He makes out country a better place. The violent cocaine user who commits crimes to fuel his addiction is not. Yet for some reason, the US government is devoting the same amount of resources to each cause.
