We’re all just human beings. No matter how much we study, how hard we work, or how hard we review the potential ramifications of our decisions, we do sometimes get it wrong. Doctors, despite their years of study, get things wrong too. Patients die on the operating table all the time, but many more pass on quietly in their sleep, a result of over-medication in our prescription-happy society. Doctors are college grads with a lot on their plates. Most are a jack of many trades, master of few. When you visit them for problems such as decreased testosterone production, they may not be on the same page as you. In many cases, they may even let their incorrect perception of performance-enhancing drugs taint their training, education, and oath to improve quality of life in patients.

Most bodybuilders who use steroids become quite proficient at understanding the effects of steroids upon the body. In many cases, their knowledge is far more impressive than that of a doctor, who may treat the drug like any other compound. You understand your body, and after year of on-and-off steroid use, you are probably aware of the fact that you are going to need to run a steady testosterone cycle for the rest of your days. You’re okay with that. In fact, you embrace it. Instead of getting your testosterone from China, you can now purchase it locally for better prices, legally, with no headache at all. Quality is finally ensured. Everything is good, right. Not so fast…

When you arrive to your physician with low testosterone, as you will if you are crashed following a cycle with no post-cycle therapy, the doctor will prescribe something for you. Likely daunted by the media’s harsh coverage of steroid doctors, he may simply prescribe you testosterone gel. Is this the right call? Probably not. You’re not going to have T levels anywhere neat your previous levels, and Androgel isn’t going to reignite your natural testes production. The doctor is giving you a crutch to keep you away for a few months.

The reality is, in this situation, you may probably be better suited for a run of testosterone Enanthate, followed by PCT. This cycle should repeat. You could regain some test function, and your levels would be high enough to enjoy a quality life. However, since you may be nothing more than a number with low T level on a test, the doctor’s initial (and likely incorrect) response may be a low-grade answer such as Androgel.

Always remember that YOU are the boss in this situation. You are the one paying for this doctor, and you have a right to the best quality of life possible. Don’t let the doctor stand in your way. If he is incorrect about your testosterone level needs, explain your position to him. Show him in scientific terms that you understand his feelings on the matter, but that it is your body and you know what you need to function correctly. If he still disagrees, it may be time to move to another physician.
