Continuous high dosages of steroids destabilize internal metabolism systems especially hormone secreting glands medically referred to as the endocrine system. The endocrine system is charged with the responsibility of controlling and optimally regulating cellular functioning in the entire human body. Destabilizing the metabolic body system basically interferes with the crucial harmony cardinal in maintaining health.
The endocrine glands bears the ability to secrete the active hormones into the human blood system so as they can be transported to target locations to either accelerate or decelerate metabolic activity. A human thyroid gland, for instance secretes thyroxin which is distributed throughout the body by the blood, with purpose of appropriately regulating metabolism in cells. These are just but examples of metabolic hormones produced by the endocrine glands in various locations of the human body which provide an incredibly organized yet complex system perfected in balance. And this is where steroids come in handy. Steroids can alter the vital balance of hormones by providing the body with excess hormone levels through overdose, or by suppressing some natural hormonal levels. Therefore, the complexities involved in maintaining optimum balances, artificially ingested corticosteroids and adreno-corticotropic hormone can easily but severely alter the delicate balance. The fact is that even if steroids seek to supplement the deficient life-regulating hormones in the metabolic system, they never can be as perfect as nature which is designed to precision.
Recent alarming statistics reflect a dramatic increase in metabolic anomalies among steroid users, some of which are irreversible. Metabolism inefficiency ultimately but gradually develops into muscular atrophy, respiratory problems and acute depression or even death.
