Steroids are administered in the body in different forms depending on the prescriptions, and on what the individual wants. There are three general forms of anabolic steroids administration in the human body including, injectable steroids, oral pills, and the skin patches. The oral method is the most conveniently used method. Testosterone that is administered through the mouth is noted as the rapidly absorbed type. However it is largely transformed to their respective inactive metabolites and just 1 out of 6 is made presented as an active form.
To be sufficient and on the go when mouth given, testosterone derivatives must be alkylated at the 17 position, for example methyltestosterone and the common fluoxymesterne. This kind of modification helps in the reduction of the liver’s capability for breaking down the respective compounds before reaching the systemic flow. Testosterone administered parenterally has more delayed absorption duration and a far much greater action in propionate, undecanoate, enanthate, or cypionate ester form. This derivative is then hydrolyzed in order to release the testosterone at the specific site of injection. Injectable form of steroids, are administered typically into the muscle, and not in the vein, in order to steer clear of the sudden changes in the total amount of the drug in the bloodstream.
Transdermal patches, which are adhesive patches that exist on the skin, may be used to deliver a stable dose using the skin and following into the bloodstream. It is important to note these injections are the most universal methods used by different individuals in the administration of anabolic steroids especially for non-medical purposes. The conventional routes that were used to administer the steroids do not contain differential results on the usefulness of the drug. Studies have indicated that, the different anabolic properties held by the anabolic steroids are comparatively alike despite the disparities in pharmacokinetic principles, among them being the first-pass metabolism. However, the AAS forms administered through the mouth may at times cause some liver damage especially when in high doses.
Strictly controlled methods of steroids intake, are usually believed to act in the enhancement of the measures to curb the side effects of these steroids and lessen the damage to the body. However, there is no a justified scientific evidence that can substantiate these claims. Methods of this nature include: Cycling, which is a phase of alternating the taking and not taking the steroids for a certain period of time. This is done with a strong belief that the cycle will allow the body to return to normalcy and facilitate the recovery of normal levels of body hormone.
Pyramiding is another approach that involves taking the steroids in cycles of at least six to twelve weeks. This is done by starting on a low dose, and slowly increasing the dosage, and finally decreasing it to zero amount. The belief in this is that the body has some time to adjust especially to the recurrent high doses. Finally is the stacking method in which two or more steroid types are mixed, this could be both oral and injectable steroid forms, and people believe that the method has a greater effect to the muscles.
