Heart disease is a monster. It will kill one-half of the people reading this article. It’s the number one killer of Americans each year. As we age, more and more of our resources should be devoted to avoiding heart disease, and we should do more and more things to help facilitate healthy heart function. Testosterone supplementation, particularly in the form of HRT (hormone replacement therapy) may go a long way in helping to preserve heart health.

If you’re a bodybuilder reading this, then there is a fairly good chance you already know about the other positive benefits of HRT use. You know that older patients who use even small doses of HRT see a rise in strength, lean muscle tissue, sexual drive, and energy levels, along with a decrease in body fat. These effects are well-known, and among the most advertised selling points for HRT. However, many users don’t know that HRT has a very useful effect upon the heart function as well!

As we age (and subject ourselves to a wide variety of toxins, cholesterols, and periods of inactivity), the tissue in our arteries begins to change. Initially, it is a tissue that is flexible and very elastic. It works, and it works well. Our hearts have to do less work because the arteries moving blood in the body are more open. As time passes and the decades of vices begin to catch up with us, there is a natural hardening of the arteries which occurs. As a result, the heart has to work harder to pull blood through the arteries. As the heart is forced to work harder, the risk for heart attack increases. The more time your heart spends working harder than it should, the higher likelihood you will suffer from heart disease.

Testosterone supplementation causes this stiffness in the walls of the arteries to lessen. That’s right – people who take testosterone see a surprising loosening of the arterial wall tissue. This may be a case of correlation as opposed to causation, but for the most part, researchers have been unable to note any other cause for the change, other than side effects of testosterone’s benefits on other body systems. If you’re a man with low testosterone, you are at a greater risk for heart disease than your counterparts with higher testosterone levels. Consider the use of HRT not only for the wonderful effects on your appearance and performance, but also upon your life expectancy.

If you’re a younger man who is enjoying the bodybuilding lifestyle, then testosterone supplementation can still be definitely for you. You may not be experiencing a decrease in arterial wall function, but there is a fairly good chance that you are running the risk of hypertension and other ailments. If you’re engaged in the bodybuilding lifestyle, then there’s a high likelihood you’re dabbling in products like caffeine and ephedrine. It’s probable you’re carrying a high bodyweight. And you may be running orals and injectables which may present dangers to your body’s systems. Testosterone can be very useful for preserving heart health for you as well!
