Before a person can be said to be totally hooked on the juice to a point where it is hard to release himself or herself from the yoke of steroid use there are patterns that are used in taking these substances. These patterns are known as cycles and therefore the process is known as cycling. This basically involves using a predetermined medication for a specified amount of time and then letting the body rejuvenate for a set amount of time. It is during this period of body recovery that the athlete makes an assessment of how effective the steroids are in helping him/her achieve the desired objectives. The rest period is then ended and the athlete then gets back on the juice. When you alternate in this method for a considerable time period then your body becomes used to the cycle and it is quite difficult to walk away that simply.
The use of steroids is not limited to the cycling process of intake only. The athletes have developed another method of intake that is known as stacking. What this means is that the athlete introduces several types of steroids into the body in a single cycle. When the individual is on oral steroid medication he or she usually resorts to gulping down tablets of different orientation at one go. When the individual is on injection-based steroids then the procedure is simply loading the syringe with a cocktail of different steroids and then introducing these together into the body. This may seem very foolhardy to the reader but it makes ‘sense’ to the athlete. Why? This is simply because they relish the opportunity of gaining advantages that are offered by different steroids at the same time i.e. simultaneously. The efficacy of this line of thought has yet to be backed up by concrete scientific evidence.
There is yet another method that is used to get steroids into the body and this goes by the terminology of ‘pyramiding’. This method of drug introduction is named after the shape of the famous structures that were built for the pharaohs at Giza. In this method the athlete starts with a low dosage of the chosen medication which is introduced at intervals that have long breaks in between. As time goes by, these intervals are reduced but the amount of drug concentration is increased. This is done until the athlete gets to the peak of the ‘pyramid’. When the summit is finally attained, the athlete begins doing the opposite until he reaches the starting point on the other side of the ‘pyramid’. He or she then goes into a rest period after a duration of about eight months solid use of steroids. The rest period is usually a review time where the efficacy of the medication is analyzed. As with the behavior that has been exhibited by most athletes, the urge to grow bigger faster often prompts the beginning of the next cycle. In most cases, the concentration is increased and the effort is thus more ambitious.
