No Energy After MealsQ:  Hey!  I am having a weird thing happen to me.  I’m not training for a contest right now, but I’m eating pretty clean, nonetheless.  My question is, why am I so tired after I eat?  It’s like I eat a meal and I’m asleep on the couch within minutes!  It’s getting so that my girl is threatening to step out on me if I don’t start paying more attention to her.  What could be causing this?

A: Several things, actually.  I wouldn’t want you to lose your woman over this—unless she’s butt ugly. But let’s face it; if she can’t hang in until you figure this out, you should probably just kick her to the curb, ‘cause she isn’t worth it if she can’t be supportive.  One, you didn’t say how hard you train?  Are you training any harder than usual?  In the off-season, we all train heavier, so maybe you’re taxing yourself in ways that you didn’t before.  If you work physical labor, this could be it too.  But it still concerns me that you’re falling asleep right after you eat, so I am thinking it’s probably your diet.  Everyone has an idea of what “eating clean” is, and maybe your idea of eating clean doesn’t jibe with your body’s idea of it.  What I’m saying is, you might be really hypo-Glycemic or borderline diabetic.  Don’t panic, it’s probably not diabetes, but if carbohydrates (which is sugar) are causing it, you may want to go get tested.  In the meantime, do me a favor and see if you improve by eating ONLY low-Glycemic carbs.  You can find “Glycemic Index” online in a search and look at foods there, or you can use a simple rule of thumb:  No sugar, no processed starch (white rice, pasta), eat carbs ONLY up until 3 pm and eat mostly protein meals, with lots of vegetables, at night in the later meals.  You’ll be more alert, I think, and you’ll probably find that your physique will look even better by not eating these things.  Add extra protein to make up for cutting out sugar and processed type starch, and eat things like oatmeal, all green vegetables, brown rice, not white rice, and yams instead of white potatoes.  Trust me, this is likely the problem.  Best of luck.
