The various steroids that are used by many different people for the purposes of bodybuilding are themselves of very diverse nature. It is a fact that the use of these steroids has not been limited to the area of bodybuilding alone but rather these substances have been used by athletes from different sporting backgrounds to build their muscles and optimize on their endurance. This has been the trend for more than ninety years. Steroids have been used for many a different purpose and apart from the two mentioned above they have also been used in the repair of muscle groups.
It has become the norm rather than the exception that steroids are generally used by these athletes who are involved in various intense sports that include lots of power and athletic ability. This is the reason that the use of steroids is very prevalent in sports that include the likes of soccer, baseball, rugby, wrestling, and power lifting. The main reason that drives the concerned individuals to the use of these substances is the notion that their use will lead to the accumulation of more muscle mass in record times, the notion that the individual will gain much bodily strength and bulk in a short time, and to say the least, most persons are determined to get a grip on these substances that are reputed to increase the general competitiveness on a grand scale. Recent statistics have revealed that there are approximately up to 3 million people in the United States who have been or still are involved in the use of steroids.
More research that has been carried out on this particular subject has continued to reveal results that are equally amazing. From the data that has been collected in these exercises it is evident that up to two percent of athletes who are between the tender ages of 10-14 have been involved in the use of steroids in one form or another. The figure for students in the high school level stands at about 5-10% while this figure for those who are using steroids in the college level is currently at the 5% mark.
What is equally amazing is the fact that this is going on in the United States, a country that is renowned for its tough stance on the use of steroids and a highly qualified intelligent system to boot.
In fact it is only because that there are various legal bottlenecks and administrative issues that have served to keep the identities of many steroid users out of the public radar. There are quite a number of high profile persons who have faced the wrath of the law and paid the due consequences for their use of the banned substances. The consequences are such that they have been stripped of their Olympic titles and records and have thus been dispatched to the journals of historical obscurity despite the fact that they made headlines with eye-catching performances only a while ago.
