After a prolonged use of steroids the body cannot be comfortable with the fact that one day you will wake up and decide to quit. When you finally decide to kick the habit you should be aware that this is not an overnight issue like deciding to stop eating white bread in favor of whole meal bread. The strategy here is different. The body needs to be taken out of the predicament slowly but surely. The best ways to do this are either through diluting or tapering the concentration of steroids that you are using. It is not feasible to get the body weaned off steroids as fast or as easily as may be perceived by some people. In fact it is wise that the wean-off period be extended sufficiently to ensure that the body is in tandem with your steps to recovery every inch of the way though in some instances time is of the essence.

There is a reason why the wean-off period cannot be brief as most of us would want it to. The reason for this is that trying to withdraw from the use of substances that are in the caliber of betamethasone, hydrocortisone, cortisone, methylprednisolone, prednosolone, dexamethasone, prednisone, and even triamcinolone is quite a torrid affair that has consequences that border on going berserk. This is the reason why there is a need for strategies like tapering or dilution of the concentration to ensure that the body is exposed to decreasing quantities of the substance gradually until one day the body can finally be comfortable with getting none at all.

Let us get familiar with some of the symptoms that a person who is trying to get off steroids may be exposed to. First of all our list will include the development of severe and acute joint pains. Another common indication is the general feeling of fatigue in the body even in cases where nothing physically taxing has been done. There is also the fact that the person will experience some very severe headaches which may seem to be present perpetually, and there may also be severe muscle aches that the person may not have experienced even after being on the bench press in the gym. There are research results that indicate that a person who is trying to withdraw from steroid use and in the process tries to engage in very moderated workouts is exposing him or herself to quadrupled chances of muscle tear. The same research also indicates that the person is also at a risk of a drastically reduced blood pressure.

As if this is not enough, the individual that tries to come off steroids is quite open to the fact that nausea and vomiting will become commonplace. This has been traced back to the fact that the body had become used to various metabolical functions that could only take place in the presence of the withdrawn hormonal supply. An immediate withdrawal could also expose the same person to crises in the adrenal sector and exogenous insufficiency is likely to occur here. These are all as a result of hormonal imbalances.
